Marina, the mute girl the Stingray crew has saved from evil king Titan
just the previous episode is sad, so Stingray Captain Troy Tempest and his
trusted sidekick Phones decide to take her back to her home, the
underwater city Pacifica, and reunite her with her father, Pacifica's
benign king. However, evil king Titan learns about that and decides to
have his revenge by killing them all - with the help of a plant that emits
poisonous gasses he has delivered to Pacifica.
However the plan initially fails when the plant is kept under cover
during the whole dinner ceremony Marina's father holds for his daughter
and guests.
Later though, when Marina returns to their base with Troy and Phones,
she brings the plant with her, and gives her to Atlanta, Troy's secretary
and love interest, as a token of appreciation. And when Atlanta removes
the cover of the plant, she is almost killed. Naturally, Atlanta
immediately suspects Marina, whom she never trusted in the first place, to
want to kill her. Troy and Phones don't believe Atlanta, but to prove
Marina's innocence, they have her exposed to the plant as well, and only
when the plant also almost kills her is she cleared of any suspicion.
The marionation series Stingray is great when it comes to
action - the special effects look better than in most live action series
of the time - but is not so good when it comes to drama since puppets are
not good in carrying dramatic plots by default. Unfortunately, this
episode is rather weak on action and strong on story - and not a
particularly good story at that - and therefore, well, sucks.
