When they hear of the death of Denchie, a nanny formerly in their employ, 3
ladies (Phyllis Calvert, Anna Neagle, Sheila Burrell) fallen from grace &
living in rather modest circumstances decide, as a token of appreciation for
their former, neglected, employee, run a tribute in a newspaper, but want to
share the costs for this with Denchie's niece, not even knowing the
woman. But instead of a poor niece of the poor nanny, Polly, a posh woman
(Eleanor Bron) with chauffeur shows up, bringing them little items out of
Denchie's few possessions - & showing them how their neglect for their
employee backfires on them, as Polly was herself one of the kids Denchie was
looking after ... & the only one who kept Denchie in high esteem, helping
her out when she needed it, her not having social securtiy & all. & for
that, Denchie left her 200.000 pounds she herself had inherited shortly before
her death ...
It's true that pretty little happens in this featzurette, even considering
that it is obnly 25 minutes long, it's mainly just old women talking - but it's
also true that it has a nice punchline that comes unexpectedly without being
just a flat joke, and it's true that all 4 women are great - in just talking !
