Having just emptied a bank, the two bankrobbers hide away in a
rocketship that's supposed to bring Christmas gifts to an orphanage - but
the rocket's lift-off knocks the two out, and when they finally come to,
they are back on the ground, surrounded by police just waiting to
apprehend them. And how does International Rescue, the company that owns
those fabulous flying machines, the Thunderbirds, fit into this? Well,
one lucky orphan won a day on the organisation's secret island, that's
how. The very last television episode of Thunderbirds
(there was a feature film two years later called Thunderbird 6),
and the series certainly doesn't go out in a bang - actually, this episode
(a Christmas episode of all things) is probably the weakest and most
disappointing of the whole series: There are no cool effects or miniatures
at all, the story is so cheesy it's unbearable, and the main characters
(and I'm talking about the Thunderbirds here, not the puppets who fly
them) don't feature at all in the main plot. True, as a series, Thunderbirds
was terribly uneven, but it definitely would have deserved a better
farewell-show.
