British secret service MI5 loses blueprints for an atomic weapon - and
to recover them, International Rescue is called in. Of course, normally
International Rescue is a pure rescue-organisation that doesn't
participate in politics, espionage and the like, but the atomic weapon in
question could destroy the whole world ,,, International Rescue's agent
Lady Penelope is called in to handle the job, and she's off to the French
Riviera in no time, and gets a lead on the baddies even sooner than that
... but then she's abducted and all tied up in a boatshouse, with a
timebomb about to go off in an hour - and only thanks to her inventiveness
can she call in International Rescue nevertheless, who not only rescue her
but also track down the baddies in their submarine, release some sleeping
gas into their sub, take them captive and recover the blueprints. One
would think that a blend of Thunderbirds' reliance of
exaggerated gadgets (along with great miniatures) and a James
Bond-ish plot would be a great idea - yet this episode fails
to deliver on that premise's promise and instead just tells a boring story
that lacks any and all inventiveness in terms of miniatures and special
effects Thunderbirds is usually so good at. In all, little
more than a missed opportunity.
