Criminal mastermind The Hood wants to lure International Rescue, an
organisation run by the Tracy-family and supported by a fleet of hi-tech
aircrafts, out into the open, so he plants an atom bomb on an airplane
which will go up once it lands (the bombs detonator being linked to the
landing gear) - and the situation is made all the more
personal since Tin-Tin, a close associate of the Tracys (and despite her
name no dog), travels on that plane. Of course, International Rescue,
their daring pilots and their aircrafts, the Thunderbirds, try everything
to save the plane, its crew and passengers - but even a daring mid-air
rescue fails to succeed. Everything ends well though when our heroes come
up with the idea to use cars as the planes substitute landing gear ... Like almost all of the
Anderson's Supermarionation-series, this one is great when
it comes to special effects, blowing most live-action movies from the same
time out of the water, but not so good when it comes to plot, and simply
bad when it comes to its lead characters, all puppets. Thank God then that
this episode (the first of the series) is built around its action/FX
setpiece - the mid-air rescue -, which at least gives the viewer plenty to
see.
