Ranti (Dewi Perssik) has died in an accident, but her father makes sure
that she comes back as a Pocong (ghost tied into its shroud) to punish
those reponsible for her death. First up is Leo, her fiancé who cheated
on her, and when she caught him, she was in such a distress that she fell
down some stairs to her death, and then he tried to get rid of the body with
Maya, the women he cheated on Ranti with - though Maya wanted to have
nothing to do with it. Leo is easily killed, just a few typical
pocong-scares drive him into an accident. Maya though is another matter,
as Ranti has decided to make her revenge on her more sophisticated. So
Ranti - in human form - appears to Maya's husband Reno - who's unaware of
his wife's affair of course - and makes her fall for him. Nobody else can
see Ranti of course, and everybody else can't help but notice the stench
when Reno is with his ghost lover, but he is blissfully unaware of all of
that, even though he's occasionally coughing up maggots. Eventually, he and Maya have a fall-out, which is when Ranti makes
her final move and conquers their bedroom. When Maya returns home, she
finds her husband in bed, but not with Ranti but a pocong ... and if that
doesn't freak her out enough, Ranti now also appears to her in human form
and confronts her with her wrongdoings ... and ultimately, Maya falls down
some staircase to her death, just like Ranti. And Reno, you might (or might not) ask? Why,
he has gone mad of course and was admitted to an asylum. One of
the better horror films to come out of Indonesia of late, this one does
actually feature a slightly original (if predictable) storyline and
doesn't just repeat the same scare scene in slight variations over and
over again. The direction of the film might not be exactly inventive, but
at least it's a solid effort, and the acting might not be great but is competent. And if the film would have come without
its comic subplot -
which it seems is obligatory for Indonesian shockers these days - it might
have been even better.
