Tom (Jörg Wischnauski) takes a stroll through a park, stopping at
times here or there and giving the impression there's something on his
mind. Severine (Swaantje Wilts) is getting ready for whatever-it-is,
putting on makeup and the like. Two at first glance totally unconnected
mundane activities, only eventually tied together - by a toaster and a
bath tub ... An elegantly unassuming film that stylistically
harks back to the early days of cinema (black and white, no on-screen
sound, piano score), but not in a nostalgic way but to use the basic
techniques of moviemaking to create more of a deception than an illusion,
as with the progression of the film, earlier goings-on experience a
reinterpretation, new connections are made to shed new light on the
seemingly mundane actions of our leads, in a way that creates its fair
share of suspense, with the story getting its logical resolution only in
the post credit scene. Something very different from your run-of-the
mill movie fare, but well worth a watch.
