Driving through the forest at night, a man (Fabian Busch) picks up a
hitchhiker (Justus von Dohnanyi) - only to hear minutes later on the radio
that a dangerous serialkiller has escaped from an asylum nearby, and he's
known to pick up his victims hitchhiking. This somehow makes the situation
in the car a tad awkward, especially since the hitchhiker starts to act
weirder and weirder, and there is blood on his hands (from a deer he has
run over he claims, but then he can't remember the kind of car he's
driving). By and by the driver is convinced that his companion is actually
the serialkiller ... it's good luck then the car is stopped at a police
roadblock - where bad luck that the cop (Thimo Dierkes) in charge turns out to be the
actual serialkiller ... Sure, storywise this short is highly
prredictable, but as a short piece of creating suspense, including an
expected surprise ending, it works just great, also helped of course by
fine performances by the two leads and a subtle, unexcited directorial
effort that makes the (unsurprising) surprise-ending all the more
effective. Pretty good.
