UFOs do exist, and the only reason we do not know more about them is
because it's a gouvernment conspiracy - now I'm sure we all have heard
that one before, and while we may or may not believe in UFOs as such, the
gouvernment conspiracy theory seems a bit far fetched, considering the
enormous number of (often conflicting) gouvernments that must take part in
this conspiracy to really work - I mean, the fact that UFOs would want to
land exclusively in the USA is highly unlikely. However, Jim Marrs,
author of many a best-selling conspiracy theory book, and Dr Steven Greer,
founder and director of the Disclosure Project, set out to convince us of
the age-old conspiracy theory. First up, it's Marrs, who tries to convince
us of the existence of UFOs because similar depictions of round flying
objects can found in all (?) of earth's cultures - thereby completely
ignoring C.G. Jung's theories about archetypes for example. He also claims
CIA-approved mindreaders (or as he calls them, remote viewers) confound
witness statements of alien abductions - of course without in the least
questioning their methods. Dr Steven Greer bases his conspiracy on the
theory that the alien have a way to source limitless power from one's
surroundings, and now oil, coal and fossile energy companies want to
suppress the information which could make all of humankind independent
from whatever external energy source. Now this theory is of course nothing
new, you can find it (minus alien interference) as early as 1925 in the
pulp serial The Power God, still
Greer insists on its accuracy, citing vague eyewitness reports as absolute
proof and insisting on the absolute accuracy of first hand witness reports
- which are here presented second hand only of course. Now this
movie does little to prove or disprove the existence of UFOs, it also does
little to prove or disprove a gouvernment conspiracy concerning the
existence of UFOs - because it doesn't even try. Basically, UFO
Chronicles: What the President doesn't Know is is no more than two
talking heads, who are both very gifted storytellers and both seem very
convincing and believably - but what they say simply isn't all that much
so, it's just stories that have been told before, and that were not
entirely believable the first time around, and the lack of any
photographic evidence to go with their words doesn't make it any easier to
believe either man. As mentioned above, if you tell something second hand
and then tell us how important it is to have first hand reports ... well,
that's not really impressive but a contradiction in terms. Again, I'm
not saying either Marrs or Greer aren't telling the truth, because however
unlikely their stories might be, in all honesty, I don's know the truth
either - I'm just saying that even though they're both gifted talkers,
they don't really go the distance to make their point.
