Anne, a Science Patrol-agent from France, fetches the Patrol's top pilot Hayata (Susumu Kurobe)
from Tokyo for some experiments concerning a rocketship - but soon after
the two of them have taken off to France, they disappear. Science Patrol
tries to track down Hayata, but to no avail - but they manage to capture
Anne ... who turns out to be some alien with no eyes. And this is of
course the perfect clue to Hayata's whereabouts (though the Patrol fails
to put two and two together): He has been captured by a race of
underground people (hence no eyes, a bit like a mole) who know he is
secretly giant robot Ultraman (Bin Furuya) and want to somehow hypnotize
him into submission to have Ultraman help them conquer the surface world.
And for groundwork, they have already sent a giant monster to the upper
world to destroy stuff. Ultimately, they manage to turn Hayata into
Ultraman, but what they haven't taken intop account is that Ultraman is a
child of the sun (metaphorically speaking), and he can't be abused to help
thse coming from the dark - and thus he destroys the underground
civilisation, then wrestles, defeats and kills their monster. Silly
and childish - but fun, at least if you are (like me) into giant monsters
and robots as portrayed by men in rubbersuits.
