When drilling a tunnel through a mountain, a worker (Senkichi Omura)
stumbles upon giant monster Gomess (Haruo Nakajima). Of course, nobody
believes him because he's a known alcoholic, but the news reaches a local
newspaper - and before you know it a handful of reporters (Kenji Sahara,
Hiroko Sakurai, Yasuhiko Saijo, Tatsuyoshi Ehara) are sent to the site.
And of course, the giant monster is real, and now it's up to teenage nerd
Jiro (Junji Muraoka) to take care of the situation - by hatching an egg
also found on the site that houses flying monster Litra, apparently the
only being that can defeat Gomess - which it does ... Now any
show that repurposes a Godzilla
suit (reportedly from 1964's Godzilla
vs. Mothra) can't be all bad, and thus at least this one has some
decent giant monster action, thanks also to showrunner and special effects
wizard Eiji Tsuburaya - but that said, everything here's strictly small
scale, which is also mirrored in the very simplistic storyline, all making
this fun to watch maybe through a nostagic perspective, but by no means
actually "good" by any stretch of the word.
