Another film based on that favourite horror plot device of the 2000's:
A group of documentary filmmakers get lost and fall prey to the very
subject they tried to explore. This time, the subject is jaguars on an
uncharted island in the gulf of Mexico. Interestingly, there is a
narrative discrepancy right here: While the team of filmmakers on one hand
crashlandd on this island God-knows-where, it appears that on the other,
they have come right to the island they wanted to. Then most of the team
(Erin Howie, John Hillard, Frederick Sainz) go off looking for help (on an
uncharted island?) but are killed in the process by whatever (jaguars?)
and their drunk pilot (Carlos Meza) just stumbles in and out of the
narrative without rhyme or reason. Two of the crew however - Laine (Shana
Montanez) and Greg (Demetrius Navarro) - stay behind with the airplane
wreck and alternatively make horrific discoveries and slowly fall in love
with each other, but more of the latter. Finally, they find out that
everybody else of the team has already been killed, and are suddenly under
attack by whatever-it-is. They fight against whatever-it-is valiantly, but
then Greg is dragged off by whatever-it-is, and Laine loses all will to
survive and goes one-on-one with the adversary with the only intention of
being killed. Ironically it turns out that Greg has survived the ordeal and
is actually saved, and now it also turns out that whatever-it-was wasn't
jaguars but cannibals (as if anyone cared). Now that's one movie that needn't have
been made: The premise is weak, the actual storytelling is weaker,
atmosphere is non-existant and the shock effects are pathetic. So what
reason could there be to want to watch this film?
