On a sparsely populated island off the Pacific Coast, a series of
disappearances happens every 10 or so years - which is suspicious enough
for the FBI to send one of their agents, Erickson (Adam Meirick), who
teams up with the local sheriff (Shawn McAninch) and his deputy (Cate
Hatfield) ... but at first they find very little concrete evidence, and
the key witness of the case (Les Best) turns out to be the local weirdo.
Then though, they find a clue to one of the missing man (Gary Sommers)
somewhere in the woods, but when they go there, they're attacked by the
very same man and their guide (Edward Guyer II) by a creature unknown.
Worse yet, the same night, the sheriff kills his sister (Annette Duffy) he
always loved in a trance and disappears, and when Erickson and company go
on a search for him, they don't know yet that they're in for an uphill
battle ... A clever creature feature that essentially gets the
genre right, as basically the film puts less emphasis on the creature,
actually shows it only very sparingly and in little detail, instead is
high on atmosphere and mystery alike, and carried by a clever script
rather than following the usual formula. And direction and cast alike give
this project their all to bring this one to life, which is also helped by
plenty of fittingly moody outdoor locations. In all, unusual but rather
compelling genre entertainment!
