Nothing could be less exciting for young Emily (Lucy Turner) than a
road trip to her aunt with her family (Hudson Pregont, Stephanie Sullivan,
Bennett Rodgers), so when the family car breaks down in the middle of
nowhere, she's not even sure if that's too bad a thing - and then she
spots a luxurious hotel not far of where there hasn't been one and
pressures her family to pay the place a visit and stay at least for the
night - and they are welcomed with open arms by hotel owner Malota
(Brianna Bartelt), who offers them free lodging and food and everything as
long as they want since they are stranded. This beats all of Emily's
expectations since she has always wanted to stay in a hotel like this. And
the dinner, night and breakfast really lived up to her expectations, too.
It's only when she meets Inza (Madison Brown), ghost of the former owner's
daughter, that her enthusiasm gets a huge damper: Seems Malota has killed
the former owner and make the (dimension-travelling) hotel into a death
trap for unwitting travellers, to ultimately kill them. What's really
troubling here is that while Emily was still enjoying herself, her family
has already been thrown into the place's dungeon ... A
Vacation Trip at a Treacherous Hotel might have been made on a budget
too low for its story and thus the effects and locations not always live
up to their respective needs - but the story is high on imagination of the
fairy tale type, and the filmmaker's enthusiasm clearly shines through, as
does her talent to make the most out of little and work with atmosphere to
compensate for budgetary shortcomings. It will be interesting to see where
this filmmaker's headed to.
