By Mason, the publisher of her newspaper, Darla (Dorothy Abbott) is
sent fo Hollywood to find out what the wild stories one tends to read in
the newspapers are all about ...
First, Darla somehow stumbles into an estate where several
photographers and models do artistic photos - meaning the girls are shot
wearing lingerie or bikinis ... and Darla's natural beauty soon attracts
the attention of several photographers.
Next Darla visits a Burlesque and watches a few dancers.
Then she has a private photoshoot with a photographer.
Darla tries blind dating next, meeting first a terrible comedian then a
fully fledged dramatic actor - who has taken to drinking since Hollywood
doesn't offer the roles an actor of his caliber is destined to play.
At a night club showing exotic dancers, Darla compares legs with
another woman - only to find out that she is a transvestite.
Ultimately, Darla finds a job as a model at a lingerie shop, where she
before long gets into a (cat-)fight with another model ... until her
publisher MAson, who has since found out he loves her, dashes in - only to
find uot she doesn't need all that much saving and is actually quite good
at kissing ...
Totally tame by today's standards (it could probably even play on
US-television), the film was risqué in its time - remember, int he
1940's, showing legs wan't a thing you just did. Seen from today's point
of view, a Virgin in Hollywood is a fun nostalgic piece of 1940's sleaze,
totally insignificant of course and more teasing than actually erotic, but
entertaining nevertheless.
