When mob hitman Johnny Trigger (Nathyn Masters) refuses to execute two undercover cops (Eric Linquist, Rey Gonzalez), everybody immediately suspects foul play, especially since a few too many of his projected hits turned up in the witness protection program ... and suddenly, Johnny Trigger finds himself on the run - and wouldn't you know it, he indeed is a deep cover cop. He gets FBI protection of course, but wouldn't you know it, even the FBI is infiltrated by the mob, and suddenly, Johnny finds himself on the run from the very people who were supposed to protect him as well, and on the run from the regular, non-infiltrated parts of the police force, because false evidence was planted on him. His only hope now is to get his hands on Rodrego (J.H. Rogers III), a crook who seems to have his hands deep in the whole business and who could lead him to "the boss" Constantine (Michael MacRae) ...

Teresa (CiCi Foster) never wanted to be a hooker, but when money got tight ... Jazz (Felicia Danisor) on the other hand is what you might call a happy hooker, but not a bad person, so she takes care of Teresa as best she can, including taking her with her on a date to Rodrego, where Teresa is to do the camera on an amateur porn shoot. Then Constantine and his men storm in and shoot Rodrego and Jazz, but Teresa can give them the slip, with the tape of the assassination in her possession. Rather by chance, she runs into Johnny, who promises to protect her from now on. The better Teresa gets to know Johnny though the less she understands him: He claims to be a hitman, and he's wanted by the police to corroborate just that, and yet he's a devout Christian who shies away from taking lives, and puts his life in line to save hers, a woman he hardly knows - and gradually, she falls for him, even though he never tries to hit on her.

Meanwhile, the mob and the FBI and the police move in closer on Johnny, and he has no idea who he can trust anymore, especially when he finds out Constantine is actually an agent rather high up in the FBI hierarchy ...

Wages of Sin is a pretty enjoyable movie that really tries to get the most out of its obviously low budget by treating the audience to many an inventively choreographed martial arts sequence while at the same time doing its best to tell a complex, intelligent and original story. Now truth to be told, on the story-side the film is a bit over-convoluted, and (at least after only one viewing) not all seems to make perfect sense (though some of it may just be the groundworks for the intended sequel), but as long as you watch it, that's hardly an issue, as the film moves along swiftly, the dialogue is sharp, the action scenes happen at precisely the right moments, and the characters are all fleshed out and likeable.

A really nice piece of genre entertainment, actually.
