Once upon a time, Waldo (Rook Kelly) was a stalker, and whatever the object of his affections, a young woman, did to tell him to stop, to get rid of him, it was to no avail ... until Waldo somehow caught her alone and raped her. Immediately afterwards, he realized what he had done, and how wrong that was.

Since that incident, Waldo's life has become a living hell, he has become a bum, is plagued by depression, refuses to speak, and wears a cheap dog mask over his head to hide his shame. On a whim, Waldo takes up wrestling, but he's pretty much nothing more than the human punching ball for everyone else ... and he isn't good, either.

The only satisfaction Waldo has is watching Jacquelyn (Jacquelyn Xavier) from afar, without ever making himself known to her. Somehow he feels there is a bond between him and her ... but there is a problem: Jacquelyn is the woman he stalked and raped in what seems like a former life.

One day, when Waldo watches Jacquelyn going home from work (his daily routine), he witnesses her being kidnapped by two thugs who have the intention of raping and killing her - but Waldo intervenes, takes care of the thugs, then brings Jacquelyn, who has passed out, home. When Jacquelyn comes to, she is initially (and understandably) shocked looking into the face of the dogman, but as soon as she comprehends the situation, she grows soft on him, and before long they become good friends, and romance seems to be in the air.

This of course has an effect on Waldo: His positive lookouot on life gives his wrestling a boost, and he gets better and better, but he also gets out of control and starts hurting his opponents - to a degree that he's thrown out of the gym he's training at and on top of that receives a massive beating from his former sparring partners. But it goes even further: Thanks to Jacquelyn, Waldo even finds his voice again ...

Eventually, Waldo and Jacquelyn fall properly in love - even though he's still wearing his mask - but then she wants to have sex ... For the longest time, Waldo stalls, but finally he reveals his true identity to her ...

Jacquelyn is shocked to suddenly stare into the face of her rapist, whom she has just offered her body, so she throws him out, and when he returns to her place to apologize, she calls the cops.

Waldo is desperate because his life has lost all reason, so for the next few days he abandons his shed in the middle of a field and has revenge on all those who have wronged him, as if he decided to right a few wrongs before he went out. Jacquelyn has meanwhile given the whole thing a second thought and has decided to give Waldo, who has really repented for what he has done to her, a second chance. But when she arrives at his shed, she doesn't find him there ... but she is in turn found by her would-be rapist Waldo has saved her from, but who now rapes and kills her. Waldo finds Jacquelyn next to his shed, already dead, but holding a note saying "I forgive you". At first, Waldo wants to kill himself to be with her in the next world. Then he has second thoughts though, and he becomes a vigilante killing sex offenders ...

A very unusual film that alternates between drama and comedy, romance and thriller, all blended with a few grotesque undercurrents, and all shot guerilla style with a skeletal crew nad a minimal cast. The outcome is as unusual as it is fascinating, because while the story might seem vaguely familiar, it is told in a way it has never been told before, and while the premise might suggest bad comedy, the directorial effort is subtle enough to instead turn the concept into a touching comedy-drama.

Recommended!
