Herman (Rogier Schippers) is the best beer brewer of a renowned
Amsterdam beer brewery - but unfortunately he is also a hopeless drunk,
and one night while brewing and drinking beer, he falls into a beer vat,
dies, and is made part of tomorrow's beer. The next day, the beer tastes
a bit off, but hey, there are contracts to be fulfilled. Thing is, the
off-tasting beer, turns everyone who has tasted it into a flesh-eating
zombie, first the brewery's staff, then tourists on a guided tour through
the place, and before you know it, the zombies have lost the brewery and
are let loose onto the streets of Amsterdam. Only a Japanese tourist,
who has witnessed everything in the brewery but not tasted the beer knows
what's going on, and now he tries to warn everybody - but then, how's a
Japanese tourist going to keep the people of Amsterdam from drinking beer,
especially during some kind of street party ... Pretty much a
one-joke movie that still has some things going for it: On one hand,
filmmakers do seem to understand the zombie genre and don't go for cheap
jokes but try a more subtle approachapart from the whole premise of
course). On the other hand, at roughly 12 minutes the film is just short
enough to not outstay its welcome - to make anything out of Zombeer's
story but a short would have been fatal
, but as it is the film is maybe no masterpiece, but as good as can be
(given it's a one-joke film) ...
