Your new movie Low
Self Esteem - in a few words, what is it about, and what can you
tell us about your character?
My character, Ellie, is in a relationship with a married man
who is unwilling to leave his wife and strings Ellie along which is
affecting her self esteem. What did you draw upon to
bring your character to life, and how much of Amy Radloff can we find in
Ellie? And to what extent could you identify with the situation Ellie's in
even?
I was never "popular" in high school or ever; I am very
independent so I never really relied on anyone's approval. For
Ellie, I created a persona that heavily relies on what people think of
her and the need to feel wanted and loved. I do share Ellie's
bluntness, very to the point attitude.
You pretty much carry Low
Self Esteem all on your own, acting-wise - so how much of a
challenge or strain was that?
I loved the challenge! I really enjoyed the process.
How did you get involved
with the project in the first place? I actually auditioned
for a role in another project and with talking to the director, Mike, he
created the project as a chance for us to work together. What can you tell
us about your director Mikeal Burgin [Mikeal
Burgin interview - click here], and what was your collaboration
like?
I
am so grateful that I had the opportunity to work with him! He is
creative, open minded, organized, has vision and communicates.
Communication
was huge as we live in different states. We’d connect via messenger or
FaceTime and discuss things, which made things run smoothly on set.
What can you tell us about the shoot as such, and
the on-set atmosphere? Location was amazing. Everyone knew
what they were supposed to do and when to do it. Great cast and crew;
everyone was so energetic, supportive and encouraging. Any future projects you'd like to
share?
I am actually looking forward to expanding Ellie’s story later this
year.
There is a film I took part of last year that is in post right now that
gives insight on the world of sex trafficking. Looking forward to
sharing the victim's story and to hopefully educate those unaware.
What got you into acting in the first place, and
did you receive any formal training on the subject? Ever
since I was in high school I wanted to act but I never took the initiative
to pursue it until recently. I have not had any formal training, but I did
take a workshop for method acting.
What
can you tell us about your filmwork prior to Low
Self Esteem? The roles I had portrayed prior to
Ellie were mostly background or supporting roles. Which is why this was
such a fun challenge! How would you describe yourself as
an actress, and some of your techniques to bring your characters to life? If
I had to categorize I would say I’m more of a method actor. I have been
in the military with a deployment so I can draw from an array of emotions. Actresses
(and indeed actors) who inspire you? Emma Stone and Cate
Blanchet. Your favourite
movies? Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, A Quiet
Place, John Wick. ... and of course, films you really deplore?
Anything
that doesn’t have a plot with vision will lose my interest fast. Your

Anything else you're
dying to mention and I have merely forgotten to ask? Thank
you for your time and I hope everyone likes Low
Self Esteem
and Ellie as much as I do
☺ Thanks
for the interview!
