Your upcoming movie How to Make a Deal with the Devil - in a few words, what is it about?

The movie is about a group of degenerates attempting to make a deal with the devil.

What can you tell us about your writing partners, and what was your collaboration like?

My writing partners were mainly the actors. I do a script first but rely heavily on them to each contribute their own sense of humor in it. It is very important that I involve the actors in the process. Comedy is really their domain.

Do talk about How to Make a Deal with the Devil's brand of comedy, and to what extent does it comply with your personal sense of humour?

I love sarcastic, sometimes politically incorrect comebacks. Randomness plays a huge role in my sense of humor and I particular love embarrassing and awkward situations.

Shannen Doherty

What can you tell us about the film's look and feel as such?

Ive always loved the whole 1920s look and feel to it. Even though I shot it deep in the caves where I built the sets to look like hell, I treated the film so it has a vintage look to the final color process. In terms of pacing, I shot it so it would look like a vintage TV game show. Importantly, the look and feel of the movie has to convey ‘fun’.

Shannen Doherty as Satan - why her, and how did you get her?

James Cullen Bressack [James Cullen Bressack interview - click here], who is a close friend of mine heard about the project and that I was casting, immediately asked what I thought of her. He was the one that put it all together and it really turned out perfect. We had other options, but his suggestion was bar none. It’s interesting because I was able to design the look and feel of Satan around her.

What can you tell us about the rest of your cast, and why exactly these people?

Anna Harr, Zack Ward [Zack Ward interview - click here] and Matthias Hues are the main cast in the film.

Anna Harr has always been my little starlet. We first worked together on Bedlam Stories [Bedlam Stories interview - click here] and eventually as I got to spend more time with her and her family, I was able to realize how malleable she is an actress. She also has an amazing sense of humor, something which was easy for me to write in.

Zack Ward played Scut Farkus in A Christmas Story and Dave in Titus was obviously cast because of being a veteran of comedy. I discussed with him most in length about the pacing and feel of the movie.

Matthias Hues was cast because of his very unique style and brand of his personality. I just enjoy casting such a legendary action hero as a bored servant of Satan. That to me, was hilarious for my own personal reasons.

Do talk about the shoot as such, and the on-set atmosphere!

The shoot was very intense. Especially shooting in the caves. Limestone was all over so walkies did not work. We ended up having to hike up and down within the caves and people were exhausted. We had to carry equipment piece by piece and built the 11 foot throne inside the cave as there was no way for us to bring it down through several small crevices. The crew worked really hard and the night shoots do take a toll on the actors. But we ended up pulling through in the end.

The $64-question of course, when and where will the film be released onto the general public?

Only 64 bucks?! Ha! Once the film is finished, well deliver it to Red Sea Media who will be selling the film. The actual date will be dependent on the distributor, not me. But we are hoping as soon as possible.

Any future projects beyond How to Make a Deal with the Devil you'd like to share?

I’m in the middle of pre-production for my project, The Curse of Sleeping Beauty. It’s a modern day re-telling of the Sleeping Beauty myth. Bleiberg Entertainment will be producing the film to be shot in early November. Very excited about jumping back into the director’s chair for a horror feature. It’s been quite a while as I’ve been producing the last year.
