Your upcoming movie Second to Nun - in a few words, what is it about?

Faith, a sexy killer nun, who's on a mission to slaughter a religious cult and save the Mother Superior.

Might be a stupid question, but to what extent will Second to Nun reflect your personal views of the church, nuns and the like?

Hmm, interesting question. As a kid, I grew up in a Southern Baptist Church. As I got older, I knew I wasn't the religious type lol. I just figured I'd use religious elements in a grindhouse film. Makes for a good story.

The sexy nun has over the years become a staple of grindhouse cinema - why do you think is that, and are there any sexy nun-movies that have influenced you in particular?

Nuns are usually seen as pacifist, innocent , kindhearted women, who are deprived of sensual desires because of their vows of chastity. To use this as taboo in the exploitation/grindhouse genre goes against the morals and values of religion. And it creates a fetish for the nun. I've seen a few nunsploitation films or those with a portion of nun themes like the 80's grindhouse film Ms. 45. The indie film Nude Nuns with Big Guns sparked my interest as well.

Other sources of inspiration when writing Second to Nun?

I've written a few grindhouse scripts over the years and wanted to write one with a strong female lead. The iconic grindhouse nun was the inspiration.

What got the project off the ground to begin with?

I've been craving to make some type of grindhouse film. So I wrote the short script and started the process with hiring some cast and crew.

Sexy nun movies always suggest quite a bit of nudity and violence. How far do you intend to go in either direction and is there a line you refuse to cross?

I intend to go VERY far. No lines I refuse to cross.

What can you tell us about the intended overall look and feel of Second to Nun? And to what extent will you pay hommage to grindhouse cinema of old?

Once we get the feature produced, Second To Nun"will be gritty, dramatic, action-packed, raunchy and comedic with a grindhouse cinematic feel. The film itself will pay homage to that era of films.

You just have to talk about your projected cast for a bit, and why exactly these people?

As I was writing each character, a few Hollywood actors came to mind. Those who would be perfect for this film. Depending on how much we raise for the film, or if I happen to bump into a producer, I'd possibly like to use actors like Jeff Fahey, Tony Todd, Keith David, Amber Heard, Molly Dunsworth, Jamie Chung, Nicole Beharie, Aimee Garcia and Zoe Bell.

As we speak, Second to Nun is still in its fundraising stages - so what can you tell us about your fundraising efforts?

I'm hoping to raise the funds needed to shoot the film in the late summer/early fall.

Once your funds are raised, how will you proceed, and any idea when the film will be released yet?

Looking to have it released summer 2014.

Any future projects beyond Second to Nun?

Yes, I have a few grindhouse projects I've written prior to Second to Nun that I would like to make as well.

What got you into filmmaking to begin with, and did you receive any formal training on the subject?

Sean Carlo

No formal training. I began as an actor in 1998. I've written a few scripts over the years and developed an interest in filmmaking.

Do talk about your filmwork prior to Second to Nun for a bit?

As an actor, I've worked on a few indie features here and there. And done some stand-in work for Hollywood actors.

How would you describe yourself as a writer and a director?

I'm a versatile, edgy and controversial screenwriter/director.

Filmmakers, writers, whatever else who inspire you?

Jack Hill, Russ Meyer, George A. Romero, Lucio Fulci [Lucio Fulci bio - click here], Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez and Rob Zombie.
