Tally (Maja-Celiné Probst) and Damian (Gregory B. Waldis) seem to be such a cute and loving couple - until one day when making out, he strangles her to death. Only instead of dying as such, her soul is sucked into a weird mirror world that allows her to revisit her past and his, and she finds instances in her earlier life that have put her in the typical victim role, including an abusive stepfather (Pete Riley), but also how Damian has preyed on other women close to her, and that their deaths or disappearances might have had to do with him. Now as traumatic as some of these memories are, she can't change anything about her past, but not being dead as such yet, she can prepare for the future. Problem is, Damian is also able to enter her mirror world, and he wants her dead for good ...

Certainly not your run-of-the-mill shocker, 8 Remains is a clever psychological puzzle that plays with its layers of time and reality, and also with the natural order cause and effect, all wrapped up in the guise of a surreal thriller - and if that all sounds very confusing in writing, it works on film thanks to a cleverly conceived script, a directorial effort heavy on atmosphere that doesn't hit one over the head with  neither the hidden nor the obvious, and a uniformly strong, relatable cast.

Rather unusual for sure - and well worth a watch!
