They were such a happy family ... but then wife Cindy (Vanessa Cobbs)
and baby daugher Vienna (Vienna Reed), get hit by a car, and that accident
kills the girl and disfigures and disables the wife ... and husband Chris
(Deja Soufka) feels responsible for it as it happened when he wasn't
looking for a mere moment. Of course, the way Chris looks after Cindy
these days is nothing short of loving, but she's in constant pain, both
physically and mentally, and the fact that she's paralyzed from the neck
down only adds to her depression - that becomes more unbearable by the
hour, to the point where she loses all her will to live ... but there's
nothing she can do - on her own ... First and foremost, be
warned, Always is not a film to lift your spirits, as it hasn't
been designed to be one - but that said, it's a very touching drama that
is brought to life by a subtle yet intimate directorial effort and
compelling performances that manage to say much with very little (and
comparatively bland) dialogue but via facial expressions, little gestures
and the like. And all this turns the rather straight-forward plot of the
film into a multi-levelled narrative. Again, not the most uplifting of
films, but definitely worth your time.
