On exactly the day sheriff Andy (Andy Griffith) expects a state
investigator (Robert Cornthwaite) to audit his police station and see if
it deserves additional funding, Andy's son Opie (Ron Howard) brings in a
dog - and the combined efforts of Andy, Opie and deputy Barney (Don
Knotts) to get rid of the dog before the investigator shows up only result
in more dogs coming to the station ... and when the man finally does show
up, the place is swamped with a total of 11 dogs - which works wonders on
the investigator though, who is a dogowner himself and thus looks
favourably on Andy's policestation from now on. It's not a rule
cast in stone as such, but it's mostly true: stories that feature dogs or
children tend to be cheesy - and this story features both, so it scores
high on the kitsch scale (and not the good kind of kitsch) while there are
only very few laughs ...
