The job should have been very easy: All Meera (Palomi Ghosh) was
supposed to babysit Anannya (Prisha Dabas) and Ruhaan (Jairaj Dalwani) for
the night ... but the power goes out and she finds herself infected by the
slight panic that befalls Anannya ... and suddenly Meera finds Ruhaan
gone, and it seems he has been summoned to the garden by a spooky girl and
is now in a trance - and then Meera awakens all of a sudden, only to find
Ruuhan gone ... and things go worse from there ... No direct
adaptation but obviously inspired by Henry James' The Turn of the Screw
storywise - which the film makes no secret about citing the source in its
opening credits -, Awakenings is actually all atmosphere, stripping
James' novel to its bones (or rather how much of it can be told in 13
minutes) and enriching this narrative skeleton with creepy shots and
sequences, carried by beautiful camerawork and an engaging performance by
Palomi Gosh. Really worth your while, actually!
