Greg (Marvin Young) and Joy (Folusho Peters) have just moved into their
new home in surburban Texas, and they love their neighbourhood and are
quite impressed by "Southern hospitality". And one of their
neighbours is Becky (Larissa Dali), a Barbie-doll like blonde with
a seemingly constant warm smile on her lips - and of course, she has no
problems turning Greg's head, much to the dismay of Joy. That said though,
while Greg's sure flattered by Becky's attention, he'd never cheat on his
wife. And he makes this perfectly clear to Becky when she tries to seduce
him in a neighbour's swimming pool, knowing very well Joy's out of town
for a few days. And still Greg feels kind of guilty and does everything he
can to prove his wife he loves her. Becky though has fallen madly in love
with him, and she tries every trick in the book to get him, from a mental
game of cat-and-mouse with Greg to actually trying to poison Joy. Now
Greg's not one to waver easily, but it's doubtful whether even he can put
up enough fight once Becky goes batshit crazy ... Now when it
comes to build-up, Becky certainly is on the slowburn side of
things - but all the better for it as it takes its time fleshing out the
characters and making them and the situation they find themselves in
relatable. And while it's more than clear what turn the story will take
from early on, the film is anything but predictable and uses its clear
premise only to increase tension throughout up to a suitably violent
finale. And a dynamic direction and a solid ensemble cast of course help
making this a pretty cool thriller.
