It's Halloween, and all young Laurie (Ellie Patrikios) wants is to
spend a few hours alone with her high school jock boyfriend Flash (Matt
Rife) to do you know what, and she already has her hands full as her
mother's (Tasha Dixon) out for the evening, and she has to bribe her
younger brother Elliot (Dogen Eyeler) to go trick-or-treating with little
Regan (Gemma Brooke Allen). Now of course, what Laurie doesn't know is
that Porkchop (Grayson Thorne Kilpatrick), Elliot's best friend, has
rather by accident awoken Bloody Bobby (Jo Osmond), a growth-restricted
killer in harlequin outfit that's supposed to be an urban legend, while
makind a documentary about exactly that urban legend. And unbekownst to
anyone, Bloody Bobby has already taken out four of Laurie's acquaintances
(Alix Schwartz, Malaak Hattab, Connor Weil, Ryan Poole) the other day and
is now zeroing in on Laurie's home - out of sentimentality it seems, as he
has had his last killing spree there as well. So suddenly it's Laurie, her
siblings, Flash and Porkchop against a psycho killer, and their only hope
is local conspiracy theorist Alex (Curt Clendenin) - who seems to be more
than a little off the hook himself ...
Now it's not that this movie will score very high on the
originality scale, as its plot pretty much follows the tried and true
slasher formula to the t, and the movie pretty much admits to that with
several references to Halloween,
still the genre standard. But that said, what the movie does it does well,
it scores high when it comes to excitement and suspense, doesn't shy away
from jump scares or violence where they're due, and that the gore effects
are mostly practical keeps things grounded and properly gruesome, while
the direction is properly old school as in fittingly reminiscent of the
1980s - plus, there are of course extra points for having everyone in
Halloween get-up for the finale. Also, Ellie Patrikios does a pretty good
job, leading a solid ensemble, all of which making this one a pretty cool
entry into the slasher genre.
