It starts where stories like this more often end, in a police
interrogation room, where Chief Kimble (Laura Buckles) and Agent Thomas
(Neil Chase) question Brian (Griffin Cork) about a drug drop-off gone
wrong in the hopes of getting Brian to testify on his big boss. Now the
drop-off went wrong, but only indirectly through Brian's fault, as he had
done hundreds of drop-offs before this one, and has become so confident
about this that he brought his girlfriend Katie (Karina Cox) and best
friend Steven (S-Raj Kumar) along what was supposed to be a joyride. And
everything goes very well, really, until Brian walks into a liquor store,
stumbles upon a robbery, and shoots dead the robber (Morgan Yamada) in
pure self defense. No court of law would have convicted him for this - but
unfortunately he's on a drug run, so he can't really go to the police. So
he calls his boss asking him to sort things out. Thing is, the boss isn't
too happy that Brian has brought Katie and Steven along for the ride and
insists he gets rid of these witnesses - the lethal way ... A
very cool thriller that's in equal parts a game of cat-and-mouse and
character piece, and that keeps things real, choosing clever storytelling
over spectacle, character development over action. And a very solid small
ensemble and a subtle directorial effort help to make this a genre movie
that's well worth a watch.
