The McNeils are a picturebook disfunctional family: Father Frank (Paul
T. Taylor) is a control freak on one hand but tries to spend as little
time at home as possible on the other, mother Sarah (Sheri Davis) has long
given in to drinking, spends a fortune on her therapist Dr. Fuller (BJ
Mezek) and lusts after 17 year old gardener Travis (Herb White III), and
neither of them seem to care or even notice their 15 year old daughter
Lilly's (Arianna Harris) going through a rough time. Apparently, Lilly
can't be touched due to some traumatic experience and sometimes goes into
violent fits even. And during one such fit she accidently strangles a
young boy (Tristan Farmer) to death - and gets away with it unnoticed. Now
this, coupled with tje strings from her broken guitar, gives Lilly the
idea to go around killing people, as a sort of revenge on her parents.
Because like most teenagers, she blames everything bad happening to her,
that has ever happened to her, on her parents- unlike most teenagers
though, she isnt all that wrong ... Broken Innocence is
a pretty disturbing movie, especially since one can't help but take the
side of the killer at least to some extent - after all, while her actions
are inexcusable. Plus one cant help but admire her attituce - also thanks
to a great central performance by Arianna Harris, who's surreounded by a
very able ensemble. And a clever script and an elegant directorial effort
that both nevertheless don't shy away from gruesomeness help make this a
fine piece of thriller entertainment.
