As a joke more than anything else, Tom (Christian Borromeo) and Lisa
(Annie Belle) invite mechanics Alex (David Hess) and Ricky (Giovanni
Lombardo Radice) to a party with their society friends.
At first, Tom, Lisa and their friends Howard (Gabriele Di Giulio),
Glenda (Marie Claude Joseph) and Gloria (Lorraine De Selle) have a bit of
fun with who they think are mere working class idiots, like cheating them
out of their money at poker or playfully seducing them and then breaking
it off before it gets too heavy ... but what they don't know is that Alex
is a maniac, rapist and murderer who always carries a knife, and Ricky is
somewhat retarded and does everything he says ... and all of a sudden,
Alex has beaten up the two men but good and is humiliating the women and
encouraging Ricky to rape Gloria - only Ricky can't perform, which makes
Alex all the more furious, so he himself rapes Lisa, then forces her to
have sex with Glenda, which is only cut short when a new guest to the
party, Cindy (Brigitte Pretonio), arrives while Gloria tries to make an
escape ...
Ricky catches up with Gloria outside, but now she uses all her female
charms to get Ricky over to her side, and eventually the two of them have
sex, consensual sex. Then Gloria tries to persuade Ricky to let her go or
to use his influence on Alex to persuade him to leave ...
Meanwhile at the house, Alex gets more and more fascinated by the new
arrival, Cindy, and he forces her to strip in front of everybody and
confess that she's a virgin. Ricky and Gloria return, and Ricky tries to
get Alex to leave, but by now Alex has really gotten into it, and he
starts to slice Cindy up ... and that's too much for even Ricky, who tries
to stop Alex, but in his frenzy, Alex stabs Ricky, only then realizing
that he has almost killed his best friend ... time enough for Tom to get
his gun and take a shot at Alex.
The tables have turned, and soon enough, Alex has to take a couple of
more shots and is pushed into the house's pool. Then Tom hands the gun
over to Howard and Lisa, who each also take a shot at Alex, who finally
loses his life still floating un the pool. Only Gloria to also take a
shot.
In their shooting frenzy, our little group then also wants to shoot
Ricky, who is more dead than alive anyways, but Gloria intervenes, since
he at least tried to save them ...
A very violent and unrelenting psycho thriller, but also an interesting
one. Interesting inasmuch as it shows those who fall prey to the maniacs
as a bunch of assholes who just wanted to have a little fun with two
idiots, and when the tables are turned on them, one for a while cheers for
the maniacs - it's only eventually that one realizes that the punishment
for these society pricks is by far exceeding their crime. Pretty much the
same goes for the end though, when our society pricks shoot Alex: At first
one cheers for them, but soon enough it turns out they are just as violent
as Alex if one only lets them, and they like torture at least as much
(with the exception of Lorraine De Selle's character Gloria, who brings
the film to a somewhat positive end when saving Ricky).
These interesting points aside, House on the Edge of the Park
also works as a genre movie, it contains as much violence (and more) as
you would expect from a movie of its ilk, it's well paced, well played and
competently crafted.
Recommended ... if you have the nerve for it.
