It's Christmas, and all youngsters Eline (Eline Aasheim), Magne (Magne
Steinsvoll) and Per-Ingvar (Per-Ingvar Tomren), best friends since
childhood, want is to party really hard, taking in as much alcohol as they
can hold - which is perfectly normal for people their age. Thing is, Eline
has caught the eye of an unnamed man (Tormod Lien), who at first sight
seems to be the perfect family man, he has a loving wife, is good to his
daughter, and on the surface a devout Christian, bringing the girl up as
one as well. But if he takes a fancy to a girl not even half his age
during Christmas time, he has the habit to spy her out and for Christmas
Eve put on his Santa outfit, invade her home, brutally kill everyone in
sight and rape and kill the girl in question as well - so Eline and
friends are in for quite a nasty ride this Christmas ... Now
here's a film that's not very likely to leave one unfazed, basically
because in manages to remain unpredictable throughout: After a rather
explosive opening, the film pretty much drifts off into alcohol-induced
comedy for a while, with only the scenes with Tormod Lien adding
disturbing touches to the proceedings, to ultimately evolve into a violent
excess, including a very graphic decapitation and another head smashed in
in quite some detail - and that's really the fascinating aspect about this
movie, that it manages to make these shifts pretty much seamlessly, but
it's also what's so (intentionally) disturbing about it - which is also
helped by a solid ensemble cast of course -, and the reason it will stay
with you for quite a bit after watching. So it's definitely not a film for
everyone, but fans of disquieting horror will get a kick out of it for
sure.
