When dropping by his girlfriend Susan's (Sarah Alexander) place, Steve
(Jack Davenport) accidently sees her best friend Sally's (Kate Isitt)
bottom, a mere accident really, but during the day it takes on a life of
its own & develops into a massive guilt complex, especially since he
doesn't know if & how to tell Susan ... who has been told by Sally
though.
The situation is not helped by Steve's somewhat weird best friend Jeff
(Richard Coyle), who brings into play the (fictional) character Captain
Subcontext, who can read what's really behind what one says, & the 3
characteristics for a feeble lie: the prickles, the blurts, & the
headlaughter.
When Steve later meets Susan at a furniture store - a place where he
doesn't feel at home at all since there is too much to have no opinion
about -, he feels so cornered that he releases his tension in a tirade of
hate against cushions ... before confessing everything to Susan - & a
bit more, as Sally has not only accidently flashed her bottom, but soon
afterwards willingly given him a good look at her naked front ...
But why ?
Because she thought it was a good idea to have sex with Susan's ex
Patrick (Ben Miles) in Susan's flat - & all of a sudden he couldn't
perform & she needed Reassuring.
Thanks to its weird laughs about sex & relationships that somehow
make sense (but not really), plus Jack Davenport giving a great
performance of the cornered male, & of course thanks to Captain
Subtext, this episode is just hilarious.
