Carter (Kirk McKenzie) is a drifter who was originally just passing through a small and peaceful village in Oregon, USA, when he happens upon Alex (Kurk Kasparian) in a bar, and the two hit it off with one another from the get-go, have a few (too many) drinks, smoke some weed, and only when they're totally wasted does Carter remember he has forgotten to take care of a place to stay for the night, and in the state he's presently in, nobody would admit him ... but Alex is quick to offer him the couch in his house, which Carter gladly accepts. In the coming days, Carter hangs out with Alex a lot, not only because Alex seems to always have weed and Alex's dad (Jeb Livingston) is the sheriff of town and thus turns a blind eye at his son's shenanigans, but also because they both enjoy one another's company and have a lot in common. Thing is, Alex's wife Kayla (Kat Wondergloom) is not too happy about their houseguest ... but that might have to do with the fact that she's secretly bored by Alex and feels drawn to Carter, and when he makes a pass on her ...

Around the time of Carter's arrival, another drifter has hit town, Joey (Mike Wills), but he's the complete opposite of Carter, he's a sadistic criminal with an itchy trigger finger plagued by rage and frustration over the boring shithole of a village he finds himself in.

But he can't move on yet, because it's no coincidence that he and Carter arrived in town on the same day - and whatever the reason, it leads to disaster ...

Covet Thy Neighbor is a stoner comedy and crime thriller rolled into one and turned into a movie in just over half an hour playtime ... and it works rather beautifully thanks to its very laid back pace (that almost makes one feel being on weed), sprinkled by only the occasional outbreak of violence that might seem incoherent at first but makes perfect sense when everything's tied up in the film's resolution. And add to that a cast that plays it straight and does not overdo the stoner bits, and you're in for a pretty good little movie.
