Actor Cal (Deane Sullivan) badly fucks up a casting for a role he
desparately tried to get - so to even the odds a bit he has his friend
(Holden Andrews) put a black magic spell on the competition. And thus ...
- There's Zander (Matt Fowler), who weirdly enough turned into a black
person (Jamal Quezaire) on his way home, on a night when the police's
looking for a black assailant - and we all know of course that
"no racial profiling" only applies to whites ...
- There's Scott (Nick Bandera), who's driven nuts when he inexplicably
loses his voice.
- There's Jason (Eric Pierce), who might have picked up a witch (Susan
Stangl) when driving home with his best pal (Holden Andrews).
- Surfer dude and small-time weed merchant Kush (Rob Healy) somehow
attracts a sea monster nobody knew even existed that somehow turns him
into one of its own kind.
- Stoned out of his mind kid party clown-for-hire Bob (Josh
Eichenbaum) fittingly enough finds himself facing a truly creepy
clown.
Now the curses do their job - but who's to say the last joke isn't on
Cal?

Dead List is basically an enjoyable anthology movie that
combines several shorts of the Twilight
Zone variety - what with the macabre plots and twist endings -
to something that's actually coherent as a whole ... and lots of fun to
watch, not only but especially for genre fans, as it covers a wide variety
of subgenres and while doing so never takes itself too seriously while
still creating tension and atmosphere in all the right places, and setting
all the jump scares right. And in tune with the light-footed directorial
approach, the cast seems to be in on the joke while still not playing it
for laughs. Very entertaining indeed.
