Instead of drugs, two drug addicts (Hannah Ramirez, Josiah Spargo) buy a bag of VHS tapes from their pusher, and in their stupor watch it one after the other, getting worse with each tape:

  • Suburban She Freak: Mary's (Courtney Morgan) face is weirdly disfigured - so she has ordered a beauty potion - that unfortunately turns her into a vampire ...
  • Kim: In a world overrun by zombies, a radio announcer details his experiences of becoming a zombie ...
  • Christmas Krampus: Mom (Tara Carlton) and dad (Rosasio LaMontagne) want to give their son (Jared Leve Squee) away for adoption because he's retarded - but he's got a friend: Evil Santa (Tony Sabal)!
  • Regenerate: Paralyzed Ginny (Ali de Morgoli) suffers from constant verbal and physical abuse by her husband Paul (Walter Ruether), so much so that her best friend Stacy (Katie MacDowell) gives her some untested medication to improve her situation. Before the medication takes effect though, Paul kills Ginny. But the medication does kick in after death and ...
  • Lepus: A man in an Easter bunny costume (Brian Everet Smith) terrorizes the city - so the Sheriff (Tyler Gallant) dresses up as Jesus (and might be Him even) to fight him ...

The films are over, and for some reason, our druggies are burned to a crisp. For some reason though, their pusher (Anthony Tempesta) couldn't be happier ...

Always make sure of DVD-compatibility!!!

What's important to understand when watching Death by VHS is this: These guys haven't set out to make the best thing ever but a trashy and slightly tongue in cheek hommage to trashy shot-on-video genre movies from 2 to 3 decades ago - and these guys have really achieved to do just that, presenting us with a wild mix of then current horror mainstays, plenty of gore effects (some better, some worse) and a fittingly blunt directorial approach. Sure, some episodes are crappier than others, and you will like some episodes more than others (maybe exactly the crappier ones), but overall, this mix would make a perfect party tape - if it was on tape then ;)

Good fun, really!
