Somebody has stolen a roll of betting tickets from the horsetrack and
is now using them to fake his winning tickets in big numbers, and
policewoman Casey Jones (Beverly Garland) is quick to put the finger on
betting booth clerk Fred Dana (Peter Falk), and when he won't confess on
his own free will, she pretends to be a rogue cop blackmailing him. Dana
actually takes a liking into Casey, but refuses to pay up, instead hooks
her up with his boss Bates (Harold Huber), who needs a policewoman like
her to play for bigger stakes. She pretends to go for the crooked deal
he's offering her, but then Bates finds out she is trying to trick him and
takes her captive - but he hasn't taken into account that Fred Dana has
actually chosen to go straight thanks to her kind words and now helps her
arrest Bates - even if it costs him his own freedom. Rather
cheesy and at best remotely suspenseful, Peter Falk in an early role as
the crook going straight is at least likeable enough to make this one
work.
