Even though he knows the Empty Saddles ranch is haunted - once being in
the thick of a range-feud -, Buck Jones decides to buy it & turn it
into a dude ranch (more or less a holiday resort) with the help of Swaps
Boone (Harvey Clark) & daughter Boots (Louise Brooks), & old
foreman Cimaron White (Charles Middleton). But the staged Western action
he puts on for the city folks soon turns real as some sheepmen are
dissatisfied that the land they drive their cattle through is no longer
open land. & one day in town, Boots overhears a conversation of some
sheepmen to wreck the Empty Saddles Ranch and to kidnap Madge (Claire
Rochelle), daughter of bigtime East Coast financier Grant (Lloyd
Ingraham), who of course turns out to be the former owner of the ranch
driven away during the range feuds. Of course, Buck can save his ranch
while Boots, swapping clothes with Madge, is kidnapped by the villains
instead but saved by Buck, who of course gets her inthe end.
It's not a bad Western, but for it's running time of just over an
hour, it has incredibly many characters & subplots, unnecessarily
confusing the (rather simplistic) story & taking away much of its
excitement.
