Actually, good guy Nick (William Hall) waas just saving a damsel in
distress, Jo (Steffi Duna) from being mugged, but before he knows it, he's
in cahoots with gangster Capper (Dean Jagger) and his gang, and soon
enough that leads to Nick, Jo and Capper's henchmen Red (Murray Alper) and
Spudsy (Ward Bond) hiding out in the country ... when out of nowhere a
German shepherd dog, Bill, comes by and leads them to blind Pop Adams'
(Charles Waldron) farm. And Nick, who has never wanted to be part of
Capper's gang in the first place, has an idea: why not let his accomplices
help Pop's daughter Linda (Anne Nagel) fix the farm up and make it work
properly and this way reform them ... and wouldn't you know it, before
long, Jo, Red and Spudsy enjoy country life, plus Nick actually falls for
Linda. Everything could be so great ...
But enter Capper and gang, who want the foursome of newly recruited
farmhands back int he gang, and they can be chased off only with dog
Bill's help - even if Bill is wounded in the process. But Capper is not
one to let go easily, so he and gang rob the local bank and make sure all
evidence points into Nick and company's direction ... and before you know
it, they are thrown into the slammer, and only Pop Adams, Linda and local
bankmanager Fred Peters (George Meeker) - who has fallen in love with Jo -
try to work towards their release ... when Nick breaks out of jail,
seemingly destroying all chances of being released prematurely. But Nick
only broke out to capture Capper and gang and ring the film to a happy
ending ...
Mildly funny and at times pretty cheesy crime comedy ... but that said,
the film is also ok entertainment, moving things along at a reasonable
pace and placing the jokes where they ought to be ... but that said, a
masterpiece it is not, just an ok B-pic.
