Frankenstein (Augustus Phillips) has just chemically created a human
(Charles Ogle) ... but then he is appalled by his creations hideous looks
and abandons it on the spot, returning to his fiancee Elizabeth (Mary
Fuller). The creature however comes after him and almost kills him -
before seeing itself in the mirror and immediately making a getaway,
appalled by its own looks. At Frankenstein's wedding night though, the
creature returns and tries to steal Elizabeth, when Frankenstein himself
intervenes. Being overcome by the love it senses between Frankenstein and
Elizabeth, the creature vanishes into thin air. The very first
adaptation of Mary W.Shelly's novel is, due to its length, an
over-simplified version of the same, but is memorable nevertheless due to
a few impressive (if surprisingly simple) effects, like the creation of
the creature (done by burning a dummy and then running the footage
backwards), nice creature makeup and the sheer fact that it was possibly
the very first creature feature ever.
