It's the early days of the pandemic, with the Philippines going under
strict lockdown - which doesn't phase young Gavreel (Kokoy De Santos) and
Cairo (Elijah Canlas) too much as they are madly in love with each other,
are living together, and enjoy very much to find out more and more about
one another. Sure, they haven't had sex yet, but they feel they have all
the time in the world to wait for the right moment. And they're using the
nice big place they're living at for all the best purposes, like taking in
two ex-lovers (Kyle Velino, Miggy Jimenez) who soon enough fall in love
again, letting afriend (Adrianna So) stage her fundraiser, and helping
another friend (Kych Minemoto) over his heartbreak. But then Gavreel's
Aunt Susan (Angie Castrence) stops by, and suddenly the normally open
Gavreel tries to hide their relationship, much to the dismay of Cairo, who
has once upon a time come out as homosexual for Gavreel's sake. But what
hits even harder is that Gavreel finds out his favourite aunt (Susan
Africa), who lives in New York City, is suffering from cancer and could do
with his care. He feels obliged to of course, but then again New York
isn't exactly round the corner from the Philippines ... A very
nice slice-of-life romance that tells its story in a properly unexcited
way and light-footedly blends comedy with drama - which really makes the
film feel so real. And a suitably subtle direction and a down-to-earth
natural cast sure help making this a very engaging and in its
unpretentious way also very touching movie that's well worth a look even
if "young love" stories are not your thing.
