Tennis player Scarlett (Revell Carpenter) has moved into a cabin in
Upstate New York for a tennis retreat, a cabin that's pretty much cut off
from the rest of the world, with the only one who comes around every now
and again being caretaker David (David Mar Stefansson) - but she finds
something odd about him from the get-go. Then one night, during a
blizzard, the street to the cabin gets cut off, and that's when Scarlett
realizes the cellphone has no signal, the landline might have been
tampered with, and she's completely on her own - when David knocks and
urges her to let him in as he got stuck. Now does he have good intentions
or is he planning a home invasion - and will Scarlett try to find out or
just save herself at whatever cost ... Glass Cabin is a
tense little thriller that's pretty much all atmosphere, tension and
suspense. We really do find out about the characters little more than
absolutely necessary - and that's a good thing, as it makes the story less
predictable and especially leaves us in the dark about David's intentions
and Scarlett's reactions - to the point where we don't know whether the
threat's real or Scarlett's just suffering from a strong case of paranoia.
But be it as it may, the tension's there in any case, thanks to a very
effective directorial effort that also makes great use of the locations,
and strong performances of the leads, making their characters palpable
despite the scarce characterisations given. A chilling piece indeed.
