Clownie (Josh Rutgers), according to himself, is the world's only hype
clown - what it is nobody's exactly sure, but it seems Clownie isn't
making too good of a job of it, as those who hire him usually fire him
before long - if they don't chase him off their property that is. Now
that's very much to the dismay of his wife Jazzy (Trateria Gaines), who
gets more and more sick of his failure to bring home money and urges him
to get a real job - which is easier said than done for someone who doesn't
know anything else but clowning around. But his luck seems to begin to
change when big gun filmmaker Steinberg (Steve Oakley jr) hires him to
recruit influencers for his next film project. Sounds like a great
opportunity - but also a great opportunity to mess up completely ...
One thing up front: Don't expect perfection when watching The
Hard Life and Times of Clownie - it was made for zero budget without
the use of professional equipment, and at times that painfully shows. That
said, the film's still a lot of fun to watch, it's weirdly relatable in
the way that Clownie is a combination of the (at least) one fuck-up
everyone knows and one's own fuck-ups, while many of the supporting
characters are just so much fun to watch, and the situations our
"hero" gets into are pretty hilarious for the most part. So no
technical perfection for sure, but a pretty good laugh nevertheless.
