Young author Jennifer (Camille Keaton) leaves her Manhattan
appartment to go to the country for the summer to write her first novel.
At first she finds it easy to get atone with the idyllic scenerey ...
until one day, when sunbathing in her bikini, she is hunted down by 4
men - her nerdy delivery boy Matthew (Richard Pace), gas station owner Johnny
Tabor), Andy (Gunter Kleemann) and Stanley (Anthony
Nichols) - and brutally raped. After the act she heads home, hurt,
humiliated and nude, but in the woods is picked up by the same 4 men and
raped again. When she, after that, reaches her house on all fours,
she has to realize the 4 guys are already waiting for her to rape her
again. The men then leave her lying unconscious on the floor until they
figure she might spill the beans to the police, so they force Matthew to
go back and kill her. Once leaning over her, knife in hand, he can't
muster up the courage, though, and only lies to his friends about
Jennifer though is not one to let such an act go
unavenged, and once her scars are healed, she decides to get back at
First, she has Matthew make a delivery to her place, and seduces him into having sex, only to suddenly hang him when he climaxes.
Johnny she invites to a romantic hot tub session, and she tenderly
massages his penis, only to all of a sudden cut it off, and let Johnny
bleed to death.
When Stanley and Andy finally show up top look for
their friends, Jennifer manages to take possession of their boat and their axe
and uses both to kill the 2 men ...
rape-and-revenge movie that has gained quite some notoriety for
depicting its central rape scene in great detail and at quite some
length (too long and too detailed for the comfort of many a viewer) and was thus banned in many a country upon its release - this only
helping in building up its reputation. However, in condemning the movie
to the darkest corners of hell it was often overlooked that the
rape-scene was not directed as an erotic climax of the movie - despite
it of course features nudity - but is shown in appropriately brutal
images that emphasize on the suffering of the female character. and that this character then takes revenge on her tormentors using the exact
same means (sex and violence) seems only fitting.
Now, this is not
to say the film is a genuine masterpiece, it's still
pulp-sexploitation-cinema after all, though made with more care and a
smoother direction than many other movies of this type. and its main
actress Camille Keaton (granddaughter of slapstick artist extraordinaire
Buster Keaton) is truely great here, not only looking the part but also
convincing as both the abused victim and the avenging angel.
