Bromfield (Phil Lyndon) is a psychic who doesn't in the least believe
in the afterlife - but his job pays too good to not hold séances in
alledgedly haunted houses, and the most recent one holds quite a few
stories:
- Monitor: Just because the creepy thing that manifests itself
on the baby monitor doesn't show itself when you check on the baby
doesn't mean it isn't there ...
- The Dark Eye: If your daughter claims she's in touch with the
spirit world, you better listen ...
- All I Want for Christmas: Just because you don't believe in
Santa Claus doesn't mean he isn't there - and dangerous ...
- Mannequin: Sometimes, the trick-or-treaters best tricks are
those on themselves ...
- VR: Virtual reality is a mighty cool thing - unti it gets too
real ...
- The Housing Officer: Just because you're from the council
following up on complaints doesn't make you invulnerable, exactly ...
- Deatbolt: Being captured in a bathroom with your boyfriend
might not sound like much - but it's made all the worse by hearing
what's happening outside ...
- Imprinted Memories: Pretty girls partying might have exactly
the wrong effect on some people ...

While all these stories unfold, things get more and more real for our
fake psychic Bromfield - until even he starts to believe in his abilities,
for better or worse ... with the emphasis on worse!
Framed by a story that actually does make sense in the context of the
collection and does feature plenty of scares of its own, Maniacal
is an anthology shot by a wide range of British directors which
consequently has a bit for everyone, from the darkly comedic to the
downright creepy, the gruesome to the atmospheric. And even if the films
are of slightly varying quality, the general standard is very high, and
genre fans will sure be entertained by most of the film's segments!
