Mister Creep (Brian D. Anderson), the killer with a clown mask burnt
into his skin who carries a creepy doll with him and who's said to have
killed over 200 people, has been an urban legend for quite some time now -
until a quartet of documentary filmmakers, Beth (Amber Lee Solis), John
(Ali Alkhafaji), Val (Shaela Payne) and Dave (Thomas Burke), figure it's
time to investigate the story. You see, Mister Creep has broadcast his
crimes via a pirate TV station, and even though he's said to have been
executed 20 years ago, it seems the station is still broadcasting. So it's
off to the by now abandoned police station for our filmmakers to see if
there are still files on the killer in the building - and yes there are,
but the building's also haunted by the ghost of Mr. Creep, and his doll's
still about, giving Val the scare of a lifetime. Next stop is Mr. Creep's
biographer and friend Mary (Judy McMillan) for an interview - during which
Mary goes dangerously insane. Finally it's off to the transmission tower
Mr. Creep's channel is broadcast from - but that mission is after no good
star ...
Now while I have to admit the found footage approach seems
horribly outdated by 2022, especially since this movie doesn't really need
it, narratively, this is still a pretty well-constructed horror mystery,
one that tells an engaging story that gives it's secrets away only by the
by and creates a fascinating puzzle doing so, and that has all the
suspense and jump scares in all the right places. And that it's carried by
a well fleshed-out cast of characters played by a very able ensemble
doesn't hurt either. So even if some of the camerawork will make you
unnecessarily seasick, this is a pretty cool genre ride.
