Francoise (Mireille Saunin) & Anna (Michéle Perello) are
travelling the French countryside when suddenly their car breaks down in
the middle of nowhere, & so they are forced to spend the night in a
nearby barn. Soon, they are overcome by the desire to have lesbian sex.
The next day, Anna is gone, & looking for her, Francoise instead finds
a dwarf, Gurth (Alfred Baillou), who takes her to a lake where she enters
a rowboat that, like driven by magic, takes her to a nearby castle.
In the castle, Francoise is welcomed by Morgane (Dominique Delpierre),
her 3 nymphs Yael (Régine Motte), Sylviane (Ursule Pauly) & Sarah
(Nathalie Chaine), & of course Morgane's servant, Gurth, & it soon
becomes clear that Morgane not only wants to make Francoise her new lover,
she also holds Anna in her dungeon & wants to force her to sell her
soul in exchange for eternal life. Eventually, Anna gives in.
Francoise though is a tougher cookie & is relatively unimpresed by
Morgane's promises of eternal life, but when she tries to escape, she
(rather magically) finds Morgane is already everywhere she wants to go to,
tempting her back. Eventually, Francoise gives up & comes back to the
castle.
However, Morganes nymphs are less than pleased about Morgane's new
friend & desperately try to get rid of her, even if that means letting
her escape. So they turn to Gurth, who after being humiliated by Morgane
ever so often, plans to get back at her by becoming her master.
So Gurth tells Francoise the secrets of Morganes power, the 3 talismans
- the necklace that steers the boat, the tunica that makes invisible
& the topaz that leads the way out of the forest -, which the nymphs
guard over.
That night, at a party (or lesbian orgy if you may) Morgane holds for
her, Francoise manages to seduce two of the nymphs & take the
necklace & the tunica from them, but fails to get the topaz ... &
when Morgane finds out about that, she has the topaz guarded with extra
care, while Gurth, whom the nymphs betray without hesitation, is soon
chained up in the dungeon. Morgane also pleads Francoise to come back, but
she is already in the dungeon trying to save Gurth, but he, realizing he
has failed, gives her his life-ring which she can use to escape the forest
... even if that means he himself has to die.
So Francoise makes good her escape, but when she exits the forest onto
the sad reality of a cemetary where a sad funeral is held, she realizes
what she has thrown away, turns back into the forest & calls out for
Morgane, who, because of Francoise's desire to be with her, can find her
despite her tunica & happily takes her back ...
Despite many sex- &/or seductive scenes this is not a dirty little
flick with wall-to-wall lesbian sex (even though there's nothing wrong
with that either), rather a beautifully filmed fairytale full of erotica
without ever getting just stupid or pretentious. Instead, Morgane et
ses Nymphes interweaves its fantasy plot & erotic scenes in a
dreamlike way where nothing has to make any sense objectively but makes
sense in the context of the film. Beautiful, & quite erotic too.
