Nain Rouge (= Red Dwarf) is a part of Detroit, Michigan's folklore,
that goes back to the story of city founder Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac,
who is said to have beaten one such creature and was thereafter befallen
by bad luck - of course the origins of the creature probably go much
further back, but this short concentrates more on recent times, as only
since 2011 the city holds annual Nain Rouge Parades, and in 2014, it
appears a few young attendees went missing - and photos on their phones
shows some mighty suspicious individuals in their vicinity ... Using
footage from actual Nain Rouge Parades and (due to the pandemic) self-shot
footage by the actors, this film really makes the best of the slightly
dire restrictions of today's indie filmmaking and turns a bunch of talking
heads into a fake documentary that follows the lead of true crime
"documentaries" to the T by mixing interviews with archive
footage and suggestive scenes to create a piece that seems just believable
enough to come across as ceepy - and creepy in the best possible way, too.
