It's spring break, and Christine (Rebecca C. Kasek) plans to go on a
trip to the beach with her odd cousin Jason (John Walsh), her bff Carrie
(Tony Ann Gambale), Carrie's sometimes-boyfriend Freddie (Michael
Merchant) and stoner Brooklyn (Tarrence Taylor), mainly because he's
always got weed, and they plan to party, maybe have sex and whatnot ...
but of course, the trip isn't going too well from the start, as the little
group just doesn't click properly and everybody's pissed at everybody soon
- and then Carrie catches some freak std at a gas station bathroom that
eventually turns her into a zombie - and she's quick to pass that on, too,
once the youngsters have checked into a motel for the night, and soon all
of them are infected in a way, all but Christine, who hooks up with Dirk
(Trey Harrison), who has just found out his girlfriend (Nicola Fiore) is
cheating on him and is now happy he's got somebody to console him - but
it's not long before they find themselves on the run from the zombies ...
but it's not just any zombies but horny zombies who can only be killed
once their genitalia are destroyed - which is easier said than done ...
Night of Something Strange comes off as a silly and sleazy movie in
my synopsis ... well, that's at least not totally wrong, though actually
the film's more silly than sleazy, the humour's more of the gross-out and
puerile variety than being proper sleaze - and the result is actually
pretty funny. Sure, Night of Something Strange can hardly be called
a sophisticated movie, but then it doesn't try to be, instead goes the
party flick route featuring plenty of silly jokes (including some
hilarious intentionally cheesy oneliners), over-the-top violence and weird
action while also investing enough thought to make the film somehow
original (after all, horny zombies is a bit of a novelty) to keep one
entertained throughout and thus make this one a real fun watch!
