While getting drunk with his friends to get over his recent break-up,
Felix (Charlie Suff) fell of the balcony - an accident he survived, but
his mind suffered and now he's on the mental stage of an eight year old,
and it seems only the many drawings he makes all day are a doorway to his
soul. Since the accident, his sister Evie (Charlotte Gould) has taken care
of all of his needs in a self-sacrificing way, while their dad (Alan
Austen) has largely kept his distance. However, despite all sisterly love
taking care of Felix has taken a toll on Evie and she has started drinking
- and when dad finds out, he wants to take Felix with him. Only Felix
refuses to go and insists he has to look after Evie - and it seems like
more than empty words, almost as if he still has a mission to fulfill ... The
Other Soul to Evie is quite a compelling movie, basically because it's
very unassuming about its possible subtexts but concentrates on pure
storytelling and atmosphere, this way letting all deeper meanings creep in
through the back door - and thanks to a very solid, mood-oriented
direction and strong performances by all involved, this has turned out to
be a rather beautiful movie.
