Waking up, a soldier (Ryan Fargo) finds himself in the middle of a
non-descript war zone. He tries to get his bearings and also some water,
but all he finds is a canteen full of maggots. And the radio he finds
seems to be out of order. To his shock, he also finds a decomposing body
(Karen Lynn), but trying to get away from it, he steps onto a nail that is
driven right through his foot and that's connected to a booby trap.
Desparately trying to get the nail out of his foot without setting off the
explosive, he suddenly has to witness that the dead body is rising and
approaching him - and its intentions don't seem friendly. Caught between a
rock and a hard stone, the soldier decides to set off the explosiv after
all when the zombie's already in arm's reach - but then the bomb doesn't
go off and the soldier finds himself waking up just where he had woken up
before - difference this time, the zombie is right behind him and
strangles him upon getting up. This all is bad enough, but the truth
behind it is even more sinister ... One can tell even from the
credits, Phantoms of the Fog is an hommage to Italian horror and
war movies of the cheaper variety from circa the 1980s, which of course
means a certain bluntness in its focus on decay and gross-out scares while
being carried by a very simplistic and far-fetched storyline - and that's
what makes this film so much fun, it has been made to entertain at a
certain level, and it does exactly that, and is very likely to be
appreciated by genre fans because of it. And if this has gotten
